Van Leeuwen believes that the study of sociological-semantic components of discourse leads to a more comprehensive and deeper cognition of the text than the study of pure linguistic components. In this regard, Van Leeuwen presents a list of ways of representing social actors and defines and explains each of them. His approach with title Representing Social Actors, is an appropriate approach for critical discourse analysis which can be used to achieve the underlying semantic layers of the text. Relying on a descriptive-analytical method, this study tries to analyze the novel “Vatan Men Zojaj”( Homeland OF the Glass ) by Yasmineh Saleh, a contemporary Algerian writer, using the method of Exclusion and Inclusion byVan Leeuwen, to determine the frequency of these components and reason for using each of them and finally to reveal unspoken sections of the text. The results of this study indicate that the frequency of the component of the Inclusion is more than of the Exclusion component, Perhaps the reason for this is the author's tendency for clear and unambiguous discourse in stating the facts. and, about the representation of gender it can be said that, in this novel, men play a more significant role than women, and it may indicate to low position and marginalization of women in Algeria.
