Abstract

Autobiography is one of the most popular genres in world literature. This literary genre has been noticed by many literary men as many have applied it in their own biography. This essay first will deal with historical background and definition of the term and next will analyses and criticize this genre. In contemporary Persian literature from both productive and analytic point of view in comparison with Arabic literature, autobiography is not very dynamic .In Persian literature; it also lacks a clear framework. Considering the old authors tendency in using autobiography, it can be claimed that this genre has been used from Ghajar period to express personal emotions. The essay concludes that memoir and diary are among sub branches of autobiography. This essay will emphasize the strong relationship between autobiography and novel.
