The symbol has special position in the Arabic contemporary poetry, so that it can be found in the poetry of the majority of the contemporary poets, and there is no doubt that the symbol appears clearly in the poetry of the famous Palestinian poet Samih al Qasim, and this what prompted us to search for this artistic phenomenon literary in his poetry ,so we  had extracted the basic symbols in his poetry at first then we analyzed and studied them, and we noted the types of  the symbol and the basic sources of them, that are the religion, history, myth, and folklore, these symbols employed by the poet with the utmost tact and taste, the poet always seeks to provide the positive side of these symbols , so that we  can say that the positive spirit controls these symbols . This research seeks to answer two important questions; 1- what are the most important symbols in the poetry of Samih al Qasim 2- what the attributes of these symbols are?
